Setteveli is a four year old gelding by Astern (Aus) and is the first foal of Neapolitan. Setteveli's name is Italian and means seven layer cake. The name follows the sweet/sugar theme that many members of the Bali Sugar (grand dam) family have been named.
Setteveli is currently being trained by Peter and Paul Snowden at their Randwick stable and is beginning his new campaign in NSW after his previous racing in Victoria after having a long lay off due to an injury. He is very lightly raced having only had 9 starts for 2 wins and a second. We are very excited about this horse and look forward to him showing the early potential that he possessed prior to his injury.
Setteveli's sire is Astern whom won ATC Golden Rose Stakes G1, ATC Silver Slipper Stakes G2 amongst his 5 wins from only 9 starts. Astern is the sire of two of the country's best three year old colts in just his second crop: Golden Mile and Aft Cabin and he currently stands at stud at Darley, Australia NSW.
Neapolitan is a daughter of Denman who was a very fast two year old filly managing to finish second in a Listed race at two. She is the first foal of the Taylor's best race mare, Group 2 winner Viennetta. Kevin and Julie Taylor have been breeding successfully from this family for 25 years.
