Fun & exciting day for Aha Family & Friends syndicate owners attending the Golden Slipper at Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney, March 23rd, 2024.
A group of 10 Aha Family & Friends syndicate owners including Virginia and I, met in Sydney (all staying around Darling Harbour) 20th-25thMarch and attended the Golden Slipper Raceday at Rosehill. The Golden Slipper is the feature race among many other quality Stakes & Group races. With an overall stakes purse of $5m… it’s the richest race in the world for 2-year-old thoroughbreds.
We booked a table for 10 in the Golden Slipper Lounge, which turned out to be right beside the doors to exit into the private guest, trackside enclosure, just past the winning post. The buffet including seafood, a selection of meats, lovely salads, cheeses & charcutiere, range of desserts… was continuous from midday to 6.00pm. The wine selection lovely and the service excellent. It’s such a fun day and our group had a great time, I believe most of us came out ahead, even better. We headed back to Darling Harbour for a light snack and more lovely wines.
On the preceding Thursday we caught the tram (20-minute ride) to Royal Randwick and visited Snowden Racing Stables meeting up with Peter Snowden. We returned on the Friday to see Setteveli trial (see photo of him pretrial) – he looked impressive running a fast-finishing 3rd in top company.
We met up for several dinners and lunches (4-hour lunch at Café Sydney in Darling Harbour the highlight) which is what you do on holiday. Some of us took the opportunity to do some shopping with some excellent sales happening in the city centre.
We’ll book again for next year (probably looking at 2 tables of 10 next year) and fingers crossed we might have a horse/s racing on the day.
